This one’s for all of our friends who struggle with dry skin in the winter. ESPECIALLY if you live in Canada and you freeze your butt off for 5 months of the year. This likely means that your skin lacks any hydration because the cold air just sucks it out of your skin. *Rant over.
“In today’s blog post, I am going to breakdown my winter skin care routine for healthier, more plump and moisturized skin! “
I moved to Alberta, Canada (Cornelia here) nearly two years ago and since making the transition from Ontario where you’re surrounded by the great lakes and humidity galore, Alberta is VERY dry. I adore my new home, but the lack of water and moisture in the air can be a big pain. Don’t get me wrong, having a dry cold or a dry hot in the summer is actually a lot more manageable on the body than the insane humidity of Southern Ontario, but it definitely doesn’t do any favours for your skin or hair.
Its taken me some time to get used to this new dryness, but I think I’ve made some strides over the past year in improving my skin! In this blog I am sharing my winter skin care routine that has helped a lot in repairing my skin and having it look and feel a lot more moisturized.
“Of course there are some basic practises you’ll need to implement into your life to keep your overall body feeling better.”
Number one being, having a humidifier in your bedroom. I also reccomend going for a hydrating facial if you can (it really helps the products work better and soak into your skin. It also helps your makeup to sit better on your face). Lastly but also just as important, don’t forget lots of lotion! And that’s just the beginning, if you want to really see a difference in how your skin looks and how you feel overall, products go a really long way.
“Keep reading below, for my day and night time winter skincare routine.”

Morning Winter Skincare Routine:
Splash face with cold water. It may seem basic, but it wakes you and your skin up to start fresh for the day!
Toner: Jennifer Joan Skincare, Lavender Mint Face Mist – not a full blown toner, but I’ve been using it this winter and really love the scent and the refreshing pick me up in the morning!
Serum: Ren Glow and Protect Serum.
Day Cream: Ren Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream.
Night Time Winter Skincare Routine:
Cleanse: Cerave Hydrating Cream to Foam Cleanser or Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm, just depends on my mood. No matter what you use, remember to invest in a gentle cleanser. Cleansing your face daily is an important part of any skin care routine. Choose a gentle cleanser that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils.
Makeup Remover: Marcelle Micellar Water
Toner: Jennifer Joan Skincare, Lavender face mist.
Serum: Ren Evercalm Redness Relief Serum. Some nights I’ll alternate with retinol, my facialist gave me the Alumier Retinol Resurfacing Serum.
Under Eye Cream: Eminence Lavender Night Cream
Oil: Eminence Rosehip C+E Firming Oil or the Ren Evercalm Barrier Support Elixir. The Eminence is like a holy grail product, it’s expensive but it works so well. I even bought it for my Mom and she’s obsessed with it too!

A few more key tips for your winter skincare routine and for feeling your best overall.
Now that I’ve gotten my face products out of the way, here are a few more tips we recommend to incorporate into your routine to feel your best.
- Don’t forget to exfoliate. Exfoliating helps rid the skin of dead skin cells, which can lead to a dull complexion, and so by exfoliating it helps your moisturizer penetrate more deeply.
- After the shower, I like to apply Jennifer Joan’s body oil, linked here. I met Jennifer at a Christmas market here in Alberta and was inspired by all of her amazing products and business model. I am loving her face mist as I mentioned above and the body oil. I cannot wait to try more from her!
- Invest in a good moisturizer. So on top of pampering yourself with oil after the shower, make sure you keep a quality moisturizer on hand for those moment throughout the day your skin looks like its lacking!
- Protect your skin from the sun. Even on cold days, the sun’s UV rays can still cause damage to your skin, so don’t forget to apply sunscreen before going outdoors.
- Remember to drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated is key to keeping your skin healthy and glowing, so make sure to drink lots of water throughout the day.
“Key takeaway? Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!”
That wraps up my tips for a winter skin care routine for dry skin! By following these tips, you can keep your skin looking and feeling healthy and beautiful all winter long. To be completely honest, some weeks are better than others. It all depends how cold it gets, some weeks it’s -40 with the wind chill and I have to be layering on the creams and oils – but that’s Canada for ya! This routine has definitely helped me and so I hope it can bring some relief for your skin as well.
