Any and all information on habit building and ways to upgrade your life are welcome in our daily learnings. We love the idea of practising habits and building them into your life so that you can feel better and live a life you feel good about. There are many ways to incorporate daily habits to upgrade your life, and we want to share some with you. In learning more about the practice of habit building, we have learned some valuable lessons from James Clear’s book, Atomic Habits. In this book he teaches you to make habit building effective and work for your life. It doesn’t have to be this overwhelming venture to change your whole life, just take it one step and day at a time.

In this blog post, I (Meg) want to focus on 5 small daily habits that will help you upgrade your life this year. These are little steps I’ve taken in my life that truly have made a big difference. If you work on small habits consistently each day, within a years time you will see big changes!

Make your bed everyday

Rise and shine! I know, I know, you hear this one all the time… but hear me out! Making your bed everyday is a great way to start your day feeling organized and in control. As simple as it may seem, it can make a huge difference in the way you feel. Plus, it’s an accomplishment you can easily check off your list before you even leave the house! If you want to take this one step further, start your day off by making sure your whole bedroom is clean and organized. This can really help set the tone for the rest of your day. Clear space, clear mind.

Keep your morning time sacred

I like to start my morning off on the right foot and keep it as sacred as possible. I try to avoid turning on my phone or laptop until after I have done something for myself. It can be anything from reading a few pages of a book, to stretching, to writing in a journal. Just taking a few moments to reset my mind and set an intention for the day, it is an invaluable way to start my day. Another way I keep my mornings sacred is by avoiding scrolling through social media or the news. This can be a huge cause of stress and anxiety and can really set the tone for the rest of the day. Instead, I like to focus on the positive and spend some time focusing on what I am grateful for. Checking social media or even the news first thing can increase your fear and anxiety.

Checking in with your goals daily

Taking the time to check in with my goals daily has been a game changer for me. I make sure to take at least five minutes every day to review my progress and make sure I am on track to reach my goals. This simple habit helps me stay motivated and focused each day. It also gives me a sense of accomplishment and pride when I see how far I have come in such a short amount of time. I recommend setting aside a few minutes each day to check in with your goals and track your progress. This simple habit can help you stay motivated and focused on your goals!

10-minute evening tidy

It can be helpful to take some time at the end of the day and do a 10-minute evening tidy. This can be as simple as putting away the dishes, folding the laundry, and picking up any clutter around the house. Doing this before bed helps me sleep better and gives me a sense of peace and satisfaction. It starts off the next day on the right foot too, clean energy!

Move your body

This does not need to be intimidating! I’m not talking about a 30 minute workout session everyday. Any sort of movement to get your body and mind aligned will add benefit to your day. This is especially important if you work from home or have an office job. Our bodies are designed to move, overall you will feel better when you focus on prioritizing this. Set aside 15-20 minutes a day to go for a walk, practise some morning or bedtime yoga to get some stretching in, take a gym class to get your heart rate up, lift some weights to build your strength. It doesn’t have to be complicated, just focus on little bits of movement everyday and we promise you, you’ll feel better for it.

Those are my top picks as habits you can turn to, to upgrade your life. We’d love to hear your thoughts on these, have you incorporated any of these into your daily routine? Habits take time, nothing happens over night (even though our society can make us feel that it does nowadays) time and consistent progress is key.
