“In this blog post, we’ll discuss some helpful tips on simple ways to practice self care.”
First and foremost, it’s important to find activities that bring you joy. Whether it’s reading a book, going for a walk, being amongst people you love or simply taking a few moments to meditate, find activities that help you relax and enjoy the present moment. Self care is more than just taking a bubble bath and enjoying some down time. There are many aspects of self care that can be incorporated into your daily life that can make a world of difference. Taking care of yourself is the best way to ensure you have the energy and focus to take on the world.

Self care is an important part of leading a healthy, happy life. By taking the time to focus on your own needs, you can reduce stress and enjoy the present moment. We hope these tips that we’ve learned along the way, will help you lead a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.

Practise Movement.
Movement is a KEY part to how we practise self-care. As we’ve gotten older, it has become even more clear as to how integral movement is to our daily routine. Whether that be yoga, running, strength training, any type of movement you can think of, our bodies thrive off of it. We suggest incorporating it into your life as often as possible. I personally aim for 6 days a week as I works from home and needs to consciously add it into my routine to feel good, while Meg aims for 5 days as she naturally lives a bit more of an active lifestyle, through work and having a cute pup she takes on daily walks! There’s no perfect formula, it’s about finding what works for you and what makes you feel your best! The key is to be consistent and mindful of your body’s needs. Remember to have fun and enjoy the process, no matter what it looks like.
Find something every week that makes you happy.
Ask yourself, is that a bath, a face mask, both?! Reading a couple chapters of a good book, going on a long drive or seeing a friend for dinner. I personally find joy in putting on my favourite Spotify playlist and getting in the car for a solo drive. I’m also someone who thrives off of human interaction, so planning dates with my boyfriend or some girlfriends is key for my well-being. Meg loves waking up naturally on the weekend to enjoy a slow morning with her partner & pup. Making time for activities that make you happy can help to destress and bring a sense of joy and peace. So, no matter how small or big, find something that brings you joy every week and make it a priority.

Take some time to spend with yourself.
Only have an hour? That’s ok. But prioritize reflection and some peaceful time with yourself when you get the chance. I enjoy having some quiet morning time to start the day with a coffee in hand while I go over my schedule for the day, I also feel so relaxed when I get to take a bath or shower at the end of the day. Whereas Meg likes to disconnect from her digital devices and curl up with a good book.
Set realistic goals.
It can be easy to be overambitious with our self-care goals, trust us on this one! Make sure that you come up with realistic goals that are achievable and that you can stick to. It could be something such as drinking more water every day or going for a daily walk. One of the ways I stick to even one small act of self care a day is to practise a minute of meditation every morning and give gratitude daily, whereas Meg has a goal of completing a yoga class once a week. One day at a time is our motto. 🙂

Prioritize Proper Nutrition.
It really is true, you are what you eat. Of course no-one’s meal plan is always balanced, we ebb and flow in life. But we are firm believers in prioritizing healthy meals as much as possible, we just truly notice a difference in the way we feel! Eating well is optimal for self care as it gives your body the energy it needs to get through the day and feel its best, honestly it’s one of the first steps. I personally have done a lot of growth in my eating patterns over the years, now more than ever I am so focused on getting the right amount of nutrients my body needs. Meg has been vegan for nearly 8 years, cooking is something she is passionate about and thrives off of nutritious meals. You can check out some of our recipe content, here!
These are just some ideas for how you can incorporate self-care into your life. We’d love to hear what you do! Tell us below, let’s get the conversation started on how we can show up for ourselves, so we can show up in life more positive, energetic and balanced.
