It’s that time of year again, the time when I put in my one of two Sephora orders and stock up on my beauty essentials for the year. The Sephora insider sale happens once in the spring and once in the late fall, so it’s the perfect time to shop seasonally for my skin. It’s now winter as I’m writing this, so for purposes of getting a better idea of what I’m using through the winter, let’s acknowledge that it’s really darn cold and dry outside right now. When I moved from Ontario to Alberta almost two years ago now, I don’t think I was mentally prepared as to how dry and cold the winters really would get. But because this is now my 2nd winter, I’m going into it a lot more prepared. (Thank goodness).
Below I’m sharing my top picks for simple, yet effective skincare and beauty products. This is by no means my full routine (I’ll write up a blog on that next), but for now I wanted to share some products I feel are worth the purchase! If you’re wondering, my skin is slightly problem prone and on the dryer side. When choosing products I want something super hydrating and not too harsh on the skin.

- Pharmacy Green Clean makeup meltaway cleansing balm: Ok so I’ve been using this one for a few weeks now and it goes on your face like butter. I had heard so many people online talk of this cleanser, that eventually I just caved and went for it. I definitely don’t regret it! I don’t wear a ton of makeup, but this product is effective at getting off my mascara and leaves my face feeling clean after a long day yet still hydrated. If you like oil cleansing, this product is similar in the sense of hydration but does a better job at removing makeup residue, it’s the best of both worlds which I love. The price point isn’t bad, $46 CDN and I bet this will last me 6 months. Pretty good deal in my books!
2. Laneige lip sleeping mask: This sleeping mask is the holy grail of lip hydration. I bought my first Laneige lip mask 4 years ago and it lasted me for 3 winters! Once I ran out, I couldn’t decide which flavour I wanted to try so I bought the holiday minis set. This way I could try all the flavours in a super cost effective way. This set should last me another 2 years (I use it 1-2 times a day), so a little really does go a long way.
3. Tarte cheeky claymate face palette: I’ve been purchasing Tarte products for a while now and they never disappoint. I’ve tried their mascara, foundation, bronzer and highlight before and the quality is always pretty stellar. This time I wanted a 3 in 1, a pallet I could use daily that would effectively add a bit of colour and contour to my face, but without that heavy makeup look. These colours are super natural and they give me the perfect glow during our long winters. Tarte is also a very ethical brand, so bonus points for that!
4. NUDESTIX Tinted Blur Foundation Stick: Ok this product is my new tried and true. I bought this foundation stick in the spring on my last Sephora haul and used it all summer long, it’s perfect for my skin. If you’re not looking for much coverage and just want something to blur your pores slightly and even out your skin tone, this product is for you! I don’t really wear foundation anymore as I just feel that it doesn’t sit right on my skin, you can always see it and I don’t like it. This product you can’t see or even feel, it’s super natural and I cannot say enough good things about it! 10/10 would recommend.
5. Christope Robin Cleansing Volumizing Paste: This haircare product was a bonus product from my Sephora points, so I didn’t actually buy it but thought it would be good to try as my hair has been feeling pretty dull recently. A little goes a long way and the reviews were very positive so I thought I’d give it a try. So far I’m really enjoying it! As a blonde with fine hair, I can’t use just any shampoo. Some shampoos give me build up and leave my hair feeling worse after washing, but not this product. My hair feels squeaky clean and I do notice a bit more volume after using. I could see myself buying the full size once I run out!
